Old Forest Cafe is a casual spot that fits comfortably into the everyday rhythms of Kuantan’s Taman Sri Kuantan neighborhood. Located along A393 at Jalan Beserah, this cafe leans into local flavors with an extensive menu featuring crowd-pleasers like Dry Soya Sauce Mee, Pandan Nasi Lemak, and Herbal Noodle Soup. Visitors often settle in for hearty plates paired with refreshing house-made drinks such as the Jumbo Watermelon Queen and Old Forrest Iced Kacang, making it a solid choice for those after familiar Malaysian tastes in a laid-back setting.

The cafe’s atmosphere strikes a balance between cozy and functional. Seating areas—while sometimes a bit snug due to smaller tables—offer comfortable corners away from the busier parts of the space. It’s a practical stop for groups who want to catch up over food or for solo diners seeking a quieter moment, aided by pleasant background music that adds to a low-key vibe. The spot tends to attract locals who appreciate familiar dishes served without fuss, often timing their visits around midday or early evening when the natural light pairs with the casual mood.

Service is typically handled by a couple of friendly staff members who keep things moving without feeling rushed, though the cafe’s open layout along a busy street lets in daylight that can sometimes feel glaring, accompanied by occasional traffic smells. Some have suggested adding glass doors to soften these outdoor elements, a sign that the cafe’s open feel is a double-edged sword—bringing in light and air but also street noise and fumes.

Food portions here lean generous, catering well to those with bigger appetites. Popular choices like Char Kuey Teow are praised for their robust wok hei flavor and satisfying size, while the fragrant pandan rice paired with a uniquely spiced curry stands out as a local favorite. While the cafe’s sweets and drinks—such as Teh C with Kaya Butter Bun and Watermelon Juice—offer refreshing complements, the overall menu leans towards comforting, well-known Malaysian staples rather than trendy or experimental dishes.

For visitors looking to unwind amid a blend of familiar tastes, casual chat, and a slightly tucked-away corner away from mall crowds (it’s conveniently located near spots like Jaya Grocer and Aunty Anne’s), Old Forest Cafe offers a straightforward, approachable cafe experience. It’s less about polished aesthetics and more about delivering a reliably pleasant place to eat and relax in the middle of a bustling neighborhood.

A good place to have food and chit chat. Char Kuey Teow flavour is robust, full of Wok Hey and the portion is huge, which suits me best. Pandan rice with curry is also good where the rice is super fragrant and curry has its own unique taste. White coffee with mixed milk is also highly recommended.

Place: at LG, just outside Mr. DIY and opposite Jaya Grocer/beside Aunty Anne's. Comfy seats at the corner with hardly anyone walking pass. Great for privacy. Clean place. Service: maned by 2 staff at a time who are friendly and chatty. Fairly fast service. Satisfied. Food: did not try their solids, so unable to comment. 1) Gigantic/Jumbo watermelon Queen (RM16.90): not very nice to call a Queen gigantic/jumbo, but it lives up to its name and is HUGE! satisfied with purchase. Not too sweet. Fairly generous watermelon cuttings and laici. Loved that they considered us digging for the fruit bits and provided plastic fork and spoon in a plastic bag with tissue. Well done. Verdict: if ure thirsty, this IS FOR YOU!!

Food is good. Service is good. It's just wasted that there is no barrier to the glaring daylight and awful gas smell. Being situated in a main road with busy traffic, the owner can put a glass door, there will still be daylight and open view but that will cut abit of the glaring and smoke, so that people can eat in a more comfortable environment. We went to the cafe in the same row with a front door, it feels so much more comfortable without the smoke smell from cars passing by.

A good place to eat and chat, nice atmosphere. The environment is clean and the food tastes good. But the tables are a bit small, making the seating cramped and uncomfortable. Large food portion and the price is acceptable. Worth a try. Recommended dishes : Smoked in your heart
